Sun, weather rating, freezing risk and condenser environment matter in addition to ambient temperature.
1. Solar load
Solar resource varies by location, season, time of day, cloud cover and angle. ChillSizer uses full-shade, partial-sun and direct-sun ranges rather than a single fake-precise value.
2. Ambient difference
At a 45°F water target, 70°F ambient creates a 25°F difference; 100°F creates 55°F. Continuous heat gain rises accordingly.
3. Equipment environmental rating
Use outdoor-rated chillers outdoors. Active Aqua AACH models are labeled indoor-only. Penguin standard water chillers are also not intended for outdoor use, while its cold-therapy products include outdoor-capable designs with freezing restrictions.
4. Ventilation
A chiller rejects removed water heat plus electrical input into air. A sealed enclosure can recirculate hot exhaust and reduce performance. Shade the equipment without blocking the condenser airflow required by the manufacturer.
5. Freezing
Water trapped inside a pump, filter or heat exchanger can freeze and crack components. Outdoor-rated does not automatically mean freeze-proof. Follow winterization instructions.
6. Outdoor insulation
Improve both the tub and lid before compensating only with larger refrigeration. Long exposed plumbing runs can also absorb heat.

An “outdoor enclosure” is not automatically helpful. If it protects the chiller from weather but traps hot condenser exhaust, the enclosure can raise the air temperature the refrigeration system has to reject heat into. Weather protection and ventilation have to be solved together.
9. Relocation can be a sizing decision
Before buying a larger chiller for a marginal outdoor design, test whether shade, a better cover, shorter sun-exposed plumbing or moving the chiller to a correctly ventilated protected location changes the heat-load problem. Reducing recurring heat gain can be more effective than adding nameplate capacity to fight the same avoidable load every day.
Outdoor is a different engineering case
Outdoor use adds solar radiation, weather exposure, larger ambient swings and product environmental-rating constraints. Do not take an indoor result and simply add a percentage. Use the outdoor exposure inputs and choose a chiller specifically rated for the location.
